Scott Brown's gesture of solidarity with Rangers midfielder Glen Kamara has been nominated for FIFA's Fair Play Award.
Brown had crossed into the rangers half as both sets of teams were warming up in order to shake the hand of Kamara, who was racially abused by Slavia Prague just the week before.
The Finland international clearly appreciated the sentiment from Brown, as the 2 players chatted for a brief moment.
The other two nominations are as follows:
The Danish Medical team and players, who responded quickly and heroically when star player Christian Eriksen collapsed in the middle of the pitch during Denmark's opening game of the Euro 2020 championships. The players surrounded Eriksen in order to respect his privacy from the many cameras at the game, whilst the medical team gave him life-saving CPR.
Claudio Ranieri has also been nominated for his introduction of the guard of honour to the Italian Serie A. He conducted his Sampdoria side to form a line, clapping the newly crowned Italian champions Inter Milan. Ranieri brought this sign of respect over to Italy that he learned from his time in England, specifically when his Leicester City side won the Premier League in 2016.
Brown reacted to his nomination by saying: "I’m obviously very humbled to be nominated such an award but, if truth be told, I’m also a little bit embarrassed to be mentioned in the same breath as the guys from Denmark.
“Let’s get it right, all I did was show my respect and support to an opponent who had been disgracefully abused just a few days earlier. I was sickened by the incident so shaking his hand was the least I could do.
“It was nothing more than a bit of human decency for someone who deserved to know we were all on his side.
“But the Danish lads were staring catastrophe in the face on that day in Copenhagen. What they did went way above an act of decency, it was truly heroic. Let’s just say, if I had a vote, I’d be giving it to all of them."
